09/11: A sad day of remembrance indeed. Thoughts turn to the Maudes, Kip
Taylor, the many other ODCSPER friends who lost their lives or their loved
ones. Though a sad day, it was
another beautiful one; bright, sunny, brisk southwesterly breez at 20 kts, gusts
to 30. (This where river travel is
particularly cool; we wouldn’t dream of venturing forth on Big Blue in 30 knot
winds. We got away at 0950,
arrived at only lock for this day at 1045, into the lock at1130 and back on our
way at 1130 (1:15 hours for a lock is pretty good. Arrived at the Illinois Valley Yacht Club at 1610, a run of
66 miles and 6.3 hours). Lazy day of
river cruising! Met a couple more Loopers—one from Charleston, SC and one from
Hamburg, Germany! He is cruising solo---sailed from Germany to Ecuador;up the
east coast to Halifax, Nova Scotia
and down the St Lawrence and is continuing the Loop! Awesome. Have I already
mentioned the guy from Iowa who completed the Loop last week at Grafton, IL in
his self made canoe—took 9 months? Cruised by a huge flock of White
pelicans----need to read up on them. Looking forward to figuring out how to
post pictures on the blog. First may just imbed them in an email. While Haleigh
is improving, it obviously is not a good idea to ingest carpet threads. Hoping
she is able to keep passing them----ah such an interesting diversion to our
days. The Illinois Valley Yacht
Club (IVY Club) Peoria, IL was
founded in 1907. Very interesting historical photographs in their building.
Dinner: Thai influenced dinner of noodles, beef, squash, carrots, onions,
garlic and red peppers.
Miles this Leg; 66; Total Miles; 1,152
