06/27: We left Phillips
Creek for the relatively short run to Oxford MD (only 12 miles if you are a
flying crow, 31 miles on the water.
Beautiful day, moderate wind & seas,
Route took us back down to the Bay from the Little Choptank, then north
to the mouth of the Choptank and from there to the Tred Avon River and Oxford
town. We settled in to Brewer Oxford
Marina, tidied up the boat & then welcomed Mike & Eloise Strand aboard
for a dinner cruise to a local anchorage.
Got back into slip at sundown & had relaxing couple of hours of wine
& chat. @ 2230 M & E returned to
their B&B for a nights sleep in beds that don’t rock. They will rejoin us in the morning for a
cruise to & tour of Cambridge, MD. Bonnie: Ah, what fun and a
treasure to have these dear friends aboard. We have traveled the world over
with them and here we are, back on the Chesapeake. Enjoyed grilled tenderloin
steaks, corn on the cob, salad and peach pie with vanilla ice cream..yum!
06/28: Day trip w/ Eloise
& Mike to Cambridge, tour, lunch & return. A pretty day and an interesting town. Bonnie: We owed Cambridge more than a couple hours
visit—especially to be able to include the Harriet Tubman Museum AND lunch—so a
return by water or asphalt has to be in the future. Had a great by all 4
reports dinner at the Masthead Restaurant: reviews raved about the Sunsets but
food was mediocre. All 4 of us had something different: Mike mussels, Bonnie
crabcake, Bill Tuna and Eloise Steamed Crabs. Our meal equaled the sunset in
quality!!
06/29: Day trip by car &
Car Ferry to St Michaels w/ Eloise & Mike to St. Michaels, MD. Guys visited Maritime Museum (still awesome)
while ladies shopped. Joined up for
lunch at the “traditional” spot, the Crab Claw.
Returned to Oxford in time to depart for nearby anchorage on another
dinner cruise. Returned to slip at
sundown after another fun filled day with Mike & Eloise. Bonnie: I am a crab cake addict—have ordered them all
over the US. The come in all shapes, sizes, texture, preparations (grilled vs
fried) , flavorings and “fillers”. At the Crab Claw I ordered a Crab Fluff—a
fried battered crab cake (rarely order fried foods but crab cakes have been an
exception) . It was to die for tempura crispy on the outside and creamy yummy
on the inside! Eloise had her steamed crabs and she picked and she ate and she
picked and she ate-----far longer than it took for the other 3 of us to finishe
our meals. So Bill googled how much crab one actually gets when “picking your
own meat”. On average 14% of each crab, regardless of size, is edible!!! Hmm,
for the length of time it takes to complete a meal, could be a new diet plan!
Our dinner at anchor was Indian chicken curry over rice with Naan.
