July 22, 2014 Block Island RI to Fairhaven, MA

07/22:  Today was almost a carbon copy of yesterday; bright sun, moderate 15 kts wind, long gentle 3 -4 foot swells from astern.  Left after breakfast (see Bonnie’s comments) at 0945 and were in slip at the Fairhaven Shipyard & Marina at 1545 after a 55 mile run.  We will clean up boat in AM, pick up rental car   & spend the night ashore at friends house.  We will head to DC to pick up truck at Bolling AFB Marina, drop dog with sitter and visit friends in Bethesda MD.   Will see Melissa over weekend, last face to face before she & Tim deploy to US Embassy, Bangkok.  Then off to Indy for a 10 day visit: includes some quality time with Bonnie’s Mom, and time to catch up on mail, house, yard, friends & neighbors.  Back to Fairhaven 10 August & continuation of our “Northeast Side Trip”.   Bonnie:  Just as I was beginning to set up a healthy breakfast for us, a boat came by announcing “Adianos”…meaning Aldo’s Bakery was delivering fresh bakery goods, yogurt, fruit, coffee, breakfast sandwiches! So much for health! Who could pass up the chance to try local pastry?!  In the afternoon he returns with sandwiches, pizza, calzones, raw bar, etc.! BTW, this is why we eat out so much oftener than planned (we have lots for food aboard) --- local cuisines just look so tempting! Also available when hailed are locals selling ice, pump outs and garbage pickups from their little boats!! Enjoyed a dinghy ride to the dinghy beach then a quick walk across the road to the Ocean Beach. There were a few beach goers already setting up for a day of sun, sand and water—was really quite lovely. Very tempting to stay another day but we do have a schedule this time—be in Fairhaven, MA to get the Elissa II settled in for a 16-day marina stay while we return to Indianapolis.   We arrived at Fairhaven Boatyard Marina - recommended by the Gracia's who live 15 min away. We got settled in the slip, had Beve and Joe over for a "last dinner of this leg of the Loop". We will be "packing out" the boat, renting a car, spending July 23 with Joe and Beve. July 24 we will drive to the Washington DC area to: retrieve our truck, turn in rental car, spend the weekend visiting friends and saying farewell to Melissa and Tim who will be leaving in early August for their posting to US Embassy Bangkok.
