5/22: We met Melissa and Tim at Reagan National Airport late morning. They were off to Portland Maine for the weekend and we were going to use their car to return to Deltaville for our truck on Sunday. We were able to meet Art and Ann Massey for lunch in Old Town Alexandria—Ann and Bill worked together in the 1970’s during our first DC tour. We then returned to the boat and did some routine cleaning (never stops) and maintenance.
5/23: Lovely day for an early walk with Jada over to the Tidal Basin. Is so quiet with no traffic! Returned to the Elissa II and we had cheesey eggs and ham for Breakfast. I took off by foot to go to the Eastern Market--@ 2miles from here. Wandered thru neighborhoods I’d never consider being in 25-50 years ago—old and new Row houses. Eastern Market is such a fun destination---produce, meats, fish, cheeses, pastas (bought some yummy chocolate Raviolis that Melissa had introduced us to) then there are clothing, jewelry vendors and artists with various mediums.

5/24: We left early for the 3 hour drive down to Deltaville—avoided I 95 craziness by going down St Mary’s Peninsula on US 301. On our way back we stopped at Chapel Point and St Ignatius. (where we had hoped to anchor and visit 5/21) Was a nice respite, lovely spot on a bluff and a bit of history we didn’t know. Once back on the boat with Jada, she and I took off for a walk to the WWII Memorial and some of the Mall. Lovely, lovely evening with lots of families. We had missed the Rolling Thunder (hundreds of motorcyclists meet at the Pentagon and then ride enmass to the Mall in remembrance of POWs and those who have given their lives) at Noon but there were clusters of them everywhere. These are NOT your Hell’s Angels! American flags streaming from their rear mounting on the bikes.
5/25: Memorial Day Greetings! Our morning was completed with Mike Doble arriving by water in his boat to visit. Mike was one of Bill’s Company Commanders at Ft Jackson. What a treat! We then went to Arlington National Cemetery to visit my father’s gravesite, a Memorial Service at the Women’s Memorial and visit Gen Max Thurman and LTG Tim Maude’s graves. We returned to the Elissa II just in time to meet Earl and Panchi Sims-good Army friends from oh, just a few years ago! Enjoyed docktails then a dinner at Jenny’s Asian Fusion restaurant here at the Marina. It appears a bit decrepit but the food is very good—mostly Chinese and it deserves its 4 star ratings!
