04/14: More “alas” as we remain in Marina, doubled lines, T’storms,
heavy rain w/gusts to 30+. Under
Small Craft Warning & Tornado Watch, both currently forecast to end at
1700. Though this sets us back a
day, it is kinda pleasant to catch up on chores, relax, read etc. And, of course dine well as I am reminded
by lunch aromas rising from galley.
Rainy day activities for me were cleaning out
200+ emails in my bonotabl account and unsubscribing to all those sites one
signs up for when getting a discount!!! Am down to 12. Lunch today was easy—reheated
leftover potato-leek soup brought from home. Dinner sautéed pork loin
tenderloins with herb roasted potatoes and spinach salad with candied pecans,
strawberries and Blue cheese crumbles.
04/15: Good start (early) enabled us to chose to by-pass
Panama City area and go almost to Apalachicola. Recovered the day we lost yesterday. We dropped south on a waterway spur, 5
miles to Port St Joe on the gulf.
Very pleasant Marina, lots of amenities and best of all, fuel discount
for Boat US. Handy since we need a
$lip, a $plash of diesel and $uction on the Holding Tank. Ran at varying speeds (and fuel
consumption rates); covered 99.5 miles in exactly 9 hours. Feels good to have our contingency day
back. My
day began with a very pleasant walk with the Girls along Nature trails. The
“cruise” meandered through Bays and cuts through cypress swamps. Someone had
recommended stopping at Port St Joe many miles ago up the rivers. It is a nice
destination stop over: cute shops, 4 miles of biking/walking nature trails and
a Piggly Wiggly and CVS if needed-not. Since we haven’t run into a shrimper
offering us some of his fresh daily catch, we opted for a shrimp dinner out---Bill
had his grilled with jerk sauce and mine was Blackened. Looking forward to
having my leftovers for lunch tomorrow!
